When a person is arrested the court will set a court date for their initial hearing and a bail amount based on the charges they were arrested on. The bond agency will charge a percentage of the bail amount as a fee and then completes all the necessary paperwork in order to have the accused released.

If the defendant fails to show up for court the person who posted bail for them (Indemnitor) will be liable for pay the full face value of the bond as well as any fees that are accrued while trying to locate the runaway defendant.

Answer: A bail bond is a legal agreement between the indemnitor, bail agency and the court or jail that allows for the release of an arrested person. The bond covers a portion of the bail amount set by the court, which will not need to be paid in full unless the defendant misses a court date.

Question: Who is the indemnitor?

Answer: The indemnitor is the person who is bailing out the arrested person by signing the legal contract. This person becomes financially liable for the defendant and must ensure that they will show up at their court date.
